Understanding Your Typing Results

Your typing speed is measured in Words Per Minute (WPM) using the standard formula: correct characters divided by 5, then divided by elapsed time in minutes. The factor of 5 represents the average word length in English; this convention is widely used for Bangla as well.

Accuracy is the ratio of correctly typed characters to total characters typed. For professional typing jobs in Bangladesh, an accuracy of 95% or higher is typically required. If your speed is high but accuracy is low, slow down and focus on correctness first — speed will follow as muscle memory develops.

Common Typing Practice Problems & Fixes

ProblemCauseFix
WPM seems lower than my actual speedThe WPM calculation uses the standard 5-character-per-word formula, which may differ from other tools that count words differently.Focus on consistency rather than the absolute number. Use the same tool for all practice sessions so your progress is comparable.
Accuracy drops suddenly mid-sentenceYou may have hit a difficult conjunct (যুক্তাক্ষর) or a sequence of similar-looking characters.Slow down for difficult sections. With practice, your muscle memory will handle complex character sequences automatically.
Bangla characters do not appear when I typeYour operating system does not have a Bangla keyboard layout enabled or activated.Enable Bangla keyboard input in your OS settings (Windows: Settings > Time & Language > Language; macOS: System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources). Use Avro Phonetic or the built-in Bangla keyboard.
Backspace or arrow keys do not work properlySome browsers handle complex script editing differently, especially with combining marks.Use Chrome or Firefox for the best Bangla text editing experience. If keys still misbehave, click Reset and start a new session.

Frequently Asked Questions

01

How is typing speed measured?

Typing speed is measured in Words Per Minute (WPM), calculated as (correct characters / 5) / (time in minutes). The standard 5-character-per-word convention is used, which is the same method used by professional typing tests.

02

How is accuracy calculated?

Accuracy is the percentage of correctly typed characters out of all characters typed. It reflects how precise your typing is, regardless of speed. An accuracy of 95% or higher is considered good for Bangla.

03

Can I practice with my own text?

Currently, the tool provides a rotating set of sample Bangla texts. Each time you reset, a new sample appears for fresh practice. We are working on adding custom text input in a future update.

04

What is a good Bangla typing speed?

For general computer users, 25-35 WPM in Bangla is average. Professional typists and data entry operators typically achieve 40-60 WPM. If you are preparing for a government typing exam in Bangladesh, the requirement is usually 20-27 WPM depending on the position.

05

Should I practice with Bijoy or Avro layout?

It depends on your goal. If you are preparing for a job exam that requires Bijoy, practice with Bijoy layout. If you type Bangla casually for social media and documents, Avro Phonetic is faster to learn. Use our keyboard layout reference page to learn either layout.

06

Does the timer pause if I stop typing?

No. The timer starts on your first keystroke and runs continuously until you complete the sample text or click Reset. This matches how professional typing tests work — pauses count against your time.

07

Is this Bangla Typing Practice tool free?

Yes, completely free. No registration, no daily limit, no session cap. All processing happens in your browser — there is no server-side processing. You can practice unlimited times for personal, educational, or exam preparation.

08

Can I practice without a Bangla keyboard installed?

You need a way to type Bangla characters. If you do not have a Bangla keyboard layout installed, you can use our online Bangla Keyboard or Avro to Unicode converter to type phonetically. Alternatively, install Avro Keyboard (Windows) or enable the built-in Bangla keyboard on macOS, Android, or iOS.
